Standing for: Three Field, As an Independent
Michael Staines was born in Chelmsford and educated in Essex state schools and at a local University.
Formerly a procurement and change manager within the financial services, real estate and pharmaceutical sectors, he now runs a local business at Stock Street Farm.
Michael has lived in Coggeshall for 10 years and is married with 4 children (2 girls and 2 boys),
He is a Coggeshall Parish Councillor and a Director of Parishes Against Incineration (PAIN) which continues to oppose the proposed waste incinerator at Rivenhall Airfield. Michael believes that County Hall needs to change policy towards high levels of recycling via local systems, not a “trucks and trash” future that is facing Essex now.
Michael is keen to promote sustainable rural tourism and local businesses and strongly supports protecting rural areas from unsustainable and overwhelming development. He has campaigned against the so called “garden” communities at West of Braintree and at West Tey and is now working to oppose the plans for massive gravel extraction which is blighting communities.
He is passionate about rural Essex and shares the Green and Independent Group vision that local voices should be heard and consulted in a meaningful way – with more decision making being made by local communities.
