Jo Beavis

Standing for: Halstead Division | Seats Held: Hedingham Braintree District Council, Essex County Council Halstead Divsion

Jo Beavis is a longstanding community campaigner and local councillor. She was first elected as a Conservative in 2003 to represent the Hedinghams on Braintree District Council and in 2017 was elected as County Councillor for the Halstead Division.

In 2019 Jo took the decision to become an Independent and to leave the national party to concentrate on local issues with a community-based perspective. In 2019 Jo was re-elected to Braintree District Council, this time as an Independent to represent Hedingham ward and soon after joined the Green & Independent Group at BDC.

Jo has held senior positions at both Braintree and Essex councils including in lead positions in the areas of communities, public health, Essex NHS services, children, families, and adoptions. Jo is a national local government representative for safer and stronger communities.

Locally, Jo is working to secure better road repairs and road safety as well as reducing flooding and is keen to see a strategic lorry route to relieve Halstead of HGV traffic. She supports the work to improve and protect the River Colne as well as the green agenda of planting more trees and improving air quality.

Jo believes that strong local services are essential to support villages and rural areas including keeping libraries open and improving connectivity via broadband and public transport.
